One way of mitigating this risk is to use WB units from group O donors who have a low titer of IgM and/or IgG anti-A and -B, thereby creating LTOWB, which can be transfused universally to any recipient with the minimal risk of hemolysis. Almost all patients have high titers of fluorescent ANA that produce a speckled pattern.
